Q. Just what is the Leslie K Bedford Memorial Foundation?
A. The Foundation is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization founded by Phyllis and George Bedford to honor the memory of their daughter. Though Leslie lost her life through a senseless act of violence, her legacy lives and grows in the Foundation and its participants. The Foundation promotes the best in girls and young women, building within them the internal assets necessary for their emotional, social, mental and physical development.
Q. What age group do you work with?
A. Ages 10 - 25.
Q. What are your Leadership Programs about?
A. The Leadership Programs are powerful learning tools. Each program consists of a workbook with interactive learning activities to foster one or more of the following assets depending on the developmental need: (1) self-esteem, (2) self-confidence, (3) self-image, (4) self-identity and (5) self-significance.
Q. Are there any fees associated with the program?
A. There is a small registration fee of $50.00. If you have any questions concerning this fee, you may contact the Foundation.
Q. Do you have programs for boys?
A. No. The Foundation’s targeted audience is girls.
Q. Where are your programs located?
A. The Foundation’s programs are located within the Dallas / Fort Worth metropolitan area in the public schools, the Women’s Museum and El Centro College.
Q. Can my daughter enroll in the program if she does not attend the school where the program is located?
A. No. If your daughter does not attend the school where the program is located, she cannot enroll. However, programs held at the Women’s Museum and El Centro College are open to all girls throughout the metropolitan area regardless of where they live and attend school. You may wish to contact your principal to inquire about establishing a leadership program at your school.
Q. Where do you get the money for your programs?
A. The programs are funded by grants, corporate and community donations.
Q. What are some of the things that you do in the Leadership programs?
A. The participants engage in guided discussions, interactive and hands-on activities, creative expressions and other idea- and creativity- generating activities.
Q. Do you give academic scholarships?
A. Yes. Participants in our programs are eligible to apply for academic scholarships. Specific requirements are listed under Scholarship Programs.
