 Because You Helped …

altA young girl feels the pride of being someone special with stars, flowers and gems named after her.   She embraces her inner and outer beauty and learns to love and appreciate herself.  She is honest and respectful as she navigates her way through the building blocks.  She develops a positive view of the world and her place in it now and in the future.  She faces life’s challenges with confidence, realizing that with every change there must be a struggle.   She emerges as a young woman and leaves home believing in herself and her ability to succeed.  Finally, a successful young woman returns to mentor and help other girls find their way.  The community is richer because this young woman feels secure in who she is and who she has become.

Resources We Need To Get There

Your talents, gifts, grants and sponsorships will ensure that we maintain our reputation for providing high quality services and scholarships to remarkably talented and aspiring young women. We take pride in attracting a diverse group of individuals; many of whom are first-generation college students with unusual backgrounds.  All of whom are very bright, highly motivated and ambitious. These young women represent what is so special about the Leslie K Bedford Memorial Foundation.

Are you a girl who…

altIs a leader with special talents, skills and interests? Takes advantage of opportunities? Shows character in her commitments? Wants to be the best that she can be? Lives in the Dallas metropolitan area? If so, you would be a great candidate for a LKB Academy. The Leslie K Bedford Memorial Foundation believes in you: your potential, your values, your desire to learn, and your accomplishments.

Our programs are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). They are designed to develop and maximize leadership skills, which will in turn lead to higher academic achievement over time. LKB completed a preliminary study on how participation in the LKB program positively affects the girls, their families and their academic performance:

With regard to leadership, the girls told researchers they learned:
  • leadership styles, roles, and positions.
  • better decision making skills.
  • better verbal and written communication.
  • and had better self-esteem.

Professional Women's Networking Group

altThe Professional Women’s Networking Group operates under the umbrella of the Leslie K Bedford Memorial Foundation and is a group of women that encompasses a broad collection of women from various professions.   The purpose of the group is to mentor, encourage and strengthen the girls that participate in the programs offered by the foundation.  While reaching out to be a beacon of encouragement to young ladies we also have a dual purpose and that is to network and mentor each other so we may better achieve professional success.

Should you wish to apply to become a part of this wonderful and rewarding network of women, please complete the volunteer inquiry form located under Volunteer Application and submit to LKB.
